Work for the Dole
Broome Telecentre has been a Work for the Dole sponsor since 1999. It is a programme that is funded
by the Federal Government for unemployed people.
The objectives of Work for the Dole are to:
- provide valuable work experience
- develop good work habits
- involve local communities in activities that provide for unemployed people and assist unemployed people at the end of the activity; and
- provide communities with activities (facilities and services), which are of value to those communities.

What will I do on a Work for the Dole placement at Broome telecentre?
Participants will be introduced to Office procedure and techniques, Computer Applications and the Internet. You will learn:
- How to use computers for word processing, data input, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, the Internet, electronic mail, scanning, small printing;
- Customer service; and
- using the telephone, faxing, photocopying, filing, mail, issuing receipts, bank procedure.
Who can participate?
- Year 12 school leavers after three months of unemployment;
- 18-24 year old job seekers unemployed six months or more;
- 25-34 year old job seekers more than 12 months unemplyed; and
- Job seekers aged 18 years and over in receipt of the full rate of Newstart or Youth allowance can volunteer to participate.
